Today, 21st of June 2015 is celebrated as International Yoga Day for the very first time. Proposal of International Yoga Day sent by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to United Nations General Assembly was accepted and hence declared June 21 as International Yoga Day. This specific date was chosen as it is regarded as longest day of year in Northern hemisphere and holds specific spiritual significance.
