Government Banned Plastic Bags in Kathmandu
Nepal government has banned the production and use of plastic bags in Kathmandu effective from 1st of Baisakh New Year day. Kathmandu has been officially declared as ‘plastic bag free city’ in a special event organized by Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment. It is considered as the positive step taken by the government officials to make capital city pollutant free.
Deputy Prime Minister Prakash Man Singh addressed an event and said that soon plastic bags will be banned in other regions of Nepal as well. Similarly, Kathmandu Mayor, Purna Bhakta Tandukar urged the people to find an alternative to plastic and polythene bags. Other government officials also supported the decision and kept their views along stressed the need of effective implementation too. Without implementing the decision, it is of no use. This government’s decision is getting positive response from all over.
On the same day, government officials and stake holders took part in an awareness rally which was organized with the positive message of harmful effects of plastic bags “Say no to plastic bags” around various parts of town.
