World Heritage Site Changunarayan Temple Reopens

Changunarayan Temple, a UNESCO world heritage site is reopened to public after being hit by deadly earthquake last April. Aruna Nakarmi, Chief Archeological Officer said that temple was opened to visitors from July 17.

There are CC cameras installed around the site for security purposes, sightseeing lane has been made with directions, and damaged heritages are given support with the help of lumbers. The Changunarayan Temple witnessed serious damages in the quake while Krishna Mandir located near to the main temple has tilted four inch back, according to chief priest Chakradharananda Rajopadhyay. Likewise, a sattal that was renovated two years ago with the investments of Rs 9 million is also completely destroyed and the ‘living traditional museum’ is collapsed in the quake. However, Chhinnamasta Temple is not affected.

The Department said that around Rs 300 million is needed for the maintenance and reconstruction of the damaged heritages in Changunarayan premises.
