Free Wifi Soon at Everest and Annapurna Base Camp

Mountaineers and travelers visiting the Everest will soon be able to access free Wi-Fi, with the Nepal government planning to install free Wi-Fi zones along the Lukla-Everest Base Camp (EBC) and Annapurna Base Camp.
The initiative was announced during the "Nepal Broadband Forum-2017" held in Kathmandu on Wednesday, the Kathmandu Post reported.
Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) chairman, Digambar Jha said the aim of the initiative is to promote tourism and access to information during natural disasters.
In the initial phase, the zones will be set up along the EBC and Annapurna Base Camp. But later will be provided in other areas.
The Wi-Fi will operate on the Okamura model which uses a low-cost optical cable for high-speed internet.
