Swoyambhunath Stupa: Swayambhunath Stupa, affectionately known as the Monkey Temple, is an ancient religious complex perched atop a hill in Nepal's Kathmandu Valley. This iconic site is revered in both Buddhism and Hinduism and is distinguished by its gleaming white dome and golden spire adorned with the watchful eyes of Buddha. The stupa is surrounded by numerous shrines and temples, offering panoramic views of the city below. Legend holds that Swayambhunath was formed from a lotus flower that bloomed in the middle of a lake that once covered the valley. Visitors often encounter the resident monkeys, which add a playful element to the sacred atmosphere.
Kathmandu Durbar Square: Kathmandu Durbar Square is a composite compound of ancient palaces, courtyards, and temples, built between the 12th and 18th centuries; it used to be the Royal palace compound of the old Malla dynasty. A 17th-century stone inscription in 23 different languages set into the wall of the palace will interest you; the Taleju temple-tallest of all structures built in 1549 A.D.; Jagannath temple- built in the 16th century, known for erotic figures carved in the wooden struts eaves, Kal Bhairav- one of the vast stone idols in Kathmandu depicting the fierce aspects of Shiva, Statue of King Pratap Malla in praying pose and the living goddess, Kumari, are very few of other attractions at Kathmandu Durbar Square among many different structures.
Pashupatinath: Pashupatinath Temple is one of the important Hindu temples of Lord Shiva in the world. This two-tiered pagoda temple is built on a single-tier plinth that is popular worldwide.
Only Hindus are granted entrance into the main temple complex. Still, you can see the temple and the cremation activities from the western bank of the holy Bagmati River. Besides being a place of devotion, the bank of the Bagmati River next to Pashupatinath Temple is the ideal cremation site for Hindus in Nepal.
Bouddhanath: Bouddhanath Stupa is one of the largest Stupas in the world. This octagonal Mandala-designed shrine stands among hundreds of prayer wheels and the 108 Buddha idols set into the niches around the large stupa.
People call Bouddhanath ‘Little Tibet’ because it is also famous for having over 50 Tibetan monasteries, making the area known as ‘Little Tibet.’ Join the pilgrims to orbit the Stupa, shop handicrafts in nearby stores, or sit on a rooftop restaurant and soak in the ambiance.
