Whether you are a first-timer or have already been to Kathmandu, you will always find something new whenever you are here.

Depending upon your flight time to Lukla, you can either have breakfast at the hotel or get it packed if you have an early flight. From the left pane of the aircraft, you can enjoy the panorama during the 35 minutes of flight. As we land at the Lukla airstrip, we will meet the rest of the crew (porters) and have a tea/coffee break while the porters rearrange our luggage.
Our trekking guide will lead your way through National Luminary Pasang Lhamu Memorial Gate, from where the route to the epic journey to Everest Base Camp begins. After about an hour of walking, we will have lunch in Thado Koshi or walk a couple more hours and have lunch directly at our lodge in Phakding.
Then, walking aside the Dudh Koshi River and crossing suspension bridges, we finally arrive at Phakding. At our teahouse in Phakding, our trekking guide will help us allocate our rooms. After a brief rest, we can have a friendly chat at the dining hall or walk to explore nearby monasteries and villages.

As the darkness ends and sunlight shows up, we take our morning meal, pack and submit our duffel bag to the porter team and get ready for a day’s walk. We will follow our trek guide through rocky forest trails, enjoying the overall atmosphere, including the passing donkeys, rhododendron trees, and layers of hills. Then, we enter through the Sagarmatha National Park entrance gate, the stone steps, and large mani stones. It will mostly be a downhill walk until we stop at our lunch stop at Jorsale.
In this way, a challenging uphill walk to Namche begins after having our lunch on the course of which we cross numerous suspension bridges, Hillary Bridge being the most iconic one. If the weather is clear, we will have our first view of Mt. Everest after a few minutes of a hike from the bridge. And as the day progresses, we will be at the famous Sherpa town of Namche Bazaar in no time. The amphitheater-style village has plenty of hotels, lodges, restaurants, bakeries, shops, and ATM services.
Comfortable wooden and stone-built lodges, inbuilt coal warming at dining, and quality rooms will bring you a good night’s sleep.

We will be kicking above 3000m from sea level today. We should be aware of altitude sickness, its causes, symptoms, and preventive measures from here. If this is your first time at a high elevation, you might feel mild headaches and dizziness, which is not unusual. You must drink plenty of water and keep your body well-nourished and hydrated.
After traversing through the stone-paved entrance to the national park, we can see excellent views of Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Ama Dablam, and Mt. Everest at the far corner. It will be the best view day until today as we also visit a nearby museum and hike towards Everest View Hotel via Syangboche airstrip.

After breakfast, we shall get ready and grab our trekking poles, then trace our steps towards Tengboche circling a giant prayer wheel. After that, we will enjoy walking through flat surfaces on the side of hills, with charming views of Ama Dablam. Then, we will go mostly downhill through beautiful rhododendron forests and finally cross a beautiful suspension bridge to reach Phunki Thangka.
Our heavy lunch at Phunki Thangka fuels up to arrive at Tengboche. After ascending through strenuous steep forested trails, a sense of relief comes around us as soon as we arrive at the top of the hill and check in to a nearby lodge. The most popular and iconic attraction is Tengboche Monastery, the oldest and biggest monastery in the Khumbu region. We shall also take a delicious bite of cake and bakery items at a nearby cafe. Later we enjoy evening activities at the dining hall of the tea house and stay overnight.

Our day begins with a mostly downhill walk through refreshing trees to Deboche. Then we cross Imja Khola on a wooden bridge and have a steep uphill walk toward the village of Pangboche, where we can have great views of the Himalayas and surrounding landscapes. Then we hike further through rocky, dusty, and windy trails to Pangboche, where we will have lunch. We will feel the wind getting stronger as we elevate to a higher elevation. Then in the late afternoon, after crossing several hills, we jump with joy as we see our tea house from a distance. There are many chortens, horse stables, and lodges, with few shops offering services here at Dingboche.

It is fantastic to wake up and see great Himalayan views from your hotel room. We have our early meal and gear up for an acclimatization hike to Nagarjun Hill. There is also an option to take another for acclimatization to hike up to Chukkung and have close views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Island Peak, and other snowcapped Himalayas. Either way, we will hike up to higher elevations and return to our lodge in Dingboche overnight, making our perfect active acclimatization day at Dingboche.

Our day today starts with a straight ascent to Dingboche Hill, and our trekking guide will lead you through gradual trails for 1-2 hours towards Dughla. After that, we will see the great Himalayas on the southern side with a pass that leads to Cho la.
Overlooking these wonder Himalayan landscapes, including tiny shrubs to the grand Himalayas and rocky mountain trails, we cross the crystal clear river to lunch at one of two restaurants in Dughla. Then, after a short break, we will hike up to the top of the hill.
Upon reaching the top, it will feel like we are on a completely different planet, surrounded by the Himalayas from all directions. An overwhelming emotion may arise when we see memorials built-in memories of people who lost their lives climbing Mt. Everest. Further continuing our gradual walk, we see Lobuche Peak and a few camps in the spring climbing seasons. In this way, we finally arrive at our tea house in Lobuche.

Our tenth day will be on the most important day of our trek.
Firstly, we will gradually walk through rocky trails to Gorakshep, with quite a challenging hilltop ascend and an unstable route.
Upon arrival at Gorakshep, we will check in at one of the lodges, rest, have a great meal, and stretch up to EBC. The way to base camp is narrow and unstable. We will face strong wind, straight sunlight, and extreme cold on this route. Enjoy views of the Khumbu glacier and icefall and feel proud to step at the base of the highest Himalayas.
Take your camera out, snap plenty of pictures, enjoy breathtaking views, and celebrate every moment at EBC. We will then return the same route to Gorakshep, have dinner, and finally stay overnight at the local lodge.
Trek Distance | 12km |
---|---|
Highest Altitude | 5,545 m/18,188 ft |
Trek Duration | 6-7 hours |
We must start the morning before sunrise to spectate the best sunrise views over Mt. Everest from Kalapatthar.
Then we shall gear up and take a steep straight walk in the dark. From this viewpoint, we can hear the gurgling sound of ice crackling down from Nuptse and have the best views of Mt. Everest when the sun shines through the horizon, creating magic as it turns white the snowcapped Himalayas into golden in color. While we are at the top of Kalapatthar, saving ourselves from freezing cold is also very important. Therefore, you must wear gloves and cover your entire body from top to bottom. In addition, we recommend you take hot garlic soup a couple of times a day while you are in Gorakshep to help prevent altitude sickness.
You will also see many Heli rescues from here as it is necessary to descend as fast as possible if the health condition of any individual worsens.
Trek Distance | 15 km |
---|---|
Highest Altitude | 3,440 m/11,280 ft |
Trek Duration | 6-7 hours |
Our return trek begins early in the morning, as we will trace our steps back to Namche from Pheriche today. It will be most of the downhill walk with about an hour of ascents. We can also feel that breathing gets easy as we descend to lower altitudes. We will get different insights into the same place while coming back through the same trail. We shall then buy souvenirs at Namche, take a shower, and get relief from tiresome muscles.
After a long walking day, we shall reach Namche in the late afternoon and stay overnight at a tea house in Namche.
Trek Distance | 19km |

Highest Altitude | 2,800 m/9,184 ft. |

Today is our celebration day, as it is our final trekking day at Lukla.
Walking across the Phakding, crossing several river tributaries enjoying the fresh Himalayan atmosphere, let's grab a drink, dance, and have overall celebration of our successful trek. At the end of the day, we finally stayed overnight at a quality tea house in Lukla.

Enjoy the final morning at the heart of the Himalayas in the Khumbu region as we will be boarded to Kathmandu in a morning flight. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, check in at your respective chosen hotel and enjoy the rest of the day to your liking.
We recommend the spa, and a stroll around the culturally rich capital city of Kathmandu. Later, we can have a farewell dinner organized by Icicles Adventure at one of the cultural restaurants nearby Thamel arranged just for you.

Yes, it is possible to stay overnight at Everest Base Camp. Actually, we do have a separate itinerary to make this happen: Everest Base Camp with an overnight stay at EBC.
We recommend overnight stay at EBC during the spring season in the months of April and May as you get the chance to interact with Everest climbers (mountaineers) and the base camp will be colorful during this time. Other options may be exploring the beautiful Everest region for a couple of days more, trying Gokyo Lakes and EBC, or crossing a few high passes for even more adventure.
The best time to trek to Everest Base Camp during spring is March, April, and May. As it is the climbing season, you will interact with many Everest expeditions mountaineers (April & May) there. The weather is fine at high altitudes, with magical blooming rhododendron forests at lower hills.
In the same way, the autumn season during October and November is also the best time to go for the Everest Base Camp Trek, as the weather is clear with clear views of the world’s highest Himalayas.
Most of the trekkers wear ankle support trekking shoes for the EBC trek. But it is not actually necessary to be ankle support unless you are carrying heavy loads. All of your luggage loads will be carried by the porter team. Actually, you will be amazed seeing locals making their way up and down the hills on flip-flops.
But you need to get the strong shoes meant for trekking purposes. Have a look at this blog for more info on trekking shoes for Everest Base Camp.
Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality permit & Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit are two permits required for the Everest Base Camp hike. If you are taking roadways from Kathmandu to Jiri, an additional Gaurishankar Conservation Area Project permit is also required. The agency will arrange all these permits. All you need to do is focus on making your trip a worthwhile experience.
While on the EBC trek, you can trek at your own pace, but still, if you trek in a joining group, you may need to catch up with the group. We suggest you go on a private EBC trip if you want to walk at your own pace without any pressure. If you have a group of friends and families (at least two), we offer private trips at the group cost, and if you are solo, there will be a small surcharge for a solo EBC trip. Private and Solo trek gives you a lot of freedom.
In both cases, you don’t have to follow any others; you will be trekking at your own pace. Stopping at the place you like for a selfie, enjoying the menu of your choice, and making your Everest Base Camp walk, the way you want it.
Your travel insurance must cover the helicopter rescue up to 6000m altitude. It comes in handy during medical emergencies and contingency situations. Travel insurance is mandatory before joining any trips with Icicles. You must also get your travel insurance policy before joining the Everest base camp trip. If you haven’t bought travel insurance before coming to Nepal, we can help you get one.
You need to have proper gear and equipment to make your trip more pleasurable. If you have your sleeping bag, sleeping mat (airbag), trekking boots, and down jacket, we recommend using the same during the trek. Plenty is available for sale and hires at stores in Kathmandu and the Everest region. If you don’t have one, our company will arrange all equipment.
For the EBC trek, previous trekking experience is not mandatory. Still, it would be best if you were physically fit, strong, and passionate about walking along the trails of high mountains. In addition, it would help if you prepared for your trek by getting involved in cardio exercises like swimming, treadmill, cycling, short-day hiking, etc. In this way, your stamina and confidence will also increase, which will eventually help you make the most out of your trip.
You will see many travelers from worldwide, especially in the famous Everest region during the best season like spring and autumn. However, nowadays, there are plenty of tea houses across the trail that can accommodate travelers. At higher altitudes, like at Lobuche and Gorakshep, there is a handful of tea houses where there might be a problem. But taking a sleeping bag along will allow one to sleep in the dining room in such a case.
During the EBC trek, we offer all (three) time meals breakfast, lunch, and dinner with tea or coffee. Along the EBC trail, we mostly find vegetarian items on the menu. Generally, everyday food items are: Dal Bhat, Tarkari (rice & lentil), soups, noodles, potato, apple pancakes, and others, to name a few. If you let us know your dietary preferences like veg or non-veg so that we can arrange the meals as per your order.
Proper altitude acclimatization is the best way to prevent high-altitude sickness. Trekking is not racing, so you should never walk too quickly or too high, ignoring your body's symptoms. Instead, listen to your body, and trek gradually, enjoying the best of culture and nature while giving enough time for your body to adapt to the changing atmosphere. Drink plenty of fluid and keep your body hydrated. If symptoms like headache, difficulty breathing, and others occur, descend to a lower altitude and take to Tenjing Hillary Hospital. If the condition worsens, you will be airlifted to a hospital in Kathmandu.
Most ATMs accept international credit cards with a withdrawal limit of 35,000 Nepalese rupees that usually costs 500 extra. You are requested to exchange your currencies while you are in Kathmandu. However, there are few ATMs at Namche.
All your meals, accommodations, transport, and salaries to guides, porters, trekking permits are included in the total trip cost. Therefore, generally, we can say that the maximum carrying 10 USD per day would be more than enough for extras like purifying water, charging your batteries, hot showers, donation to monasteries, etc.
The weather in the Himalayas is uncertain and unpredictable. Therefore, the rate of fight delay and cancellation is high in the Everest region. If this happens, you will be boarded on the flight tomorrow, and you have to spend an extra night at Lukla (if you are returning Ktm) at Ktm (if you are going Lukla). Helicopter rescue can also be used; that depends upon the situation.
So, you are requested to allocate a couple of extra days for the Everest base camp trek so that you will not miss your international flight back home.
The best-recommended way to go for any Everest trek is to board a Kathmandu-Lukla 20 minutes scenic mountain flight. Another option is to drive from Kathmandu to Jiri (9 hours’ drive) and trek for a week to reach Lukla. Today, the jeep runs from Kathmandu to Salleri (15 hours’ drive), and trekking two days from Salleri takes you to Lukla.
EBC is the most popular trek in the world and there are quite a few variations available. Depending on your fitness, time, and interest, Everest Base Camp can be reached through a couple of routes. If you are an experienced high-altitude hiker, it can be paced to 14 days itinerary, or if you are with kids/seniors trip can be elongated to 20 days, if you have more than 16 days and want to explore more than high passes trek or Gokyo Lakes & EBC is recommended. In a similar way, we do have classic Tenjing Hillary EBC Trek that takes you on a drive from Kathmandu to Jiri followed by a week trek to arrive at Lukla (or drive on a recently developed road at Salleri and 2 days trek to Lukla). Also, if we have an itinerary that lets you spend overnight at EBC (recommended during Spring season).
We are flexible in customizing the trip as per needs and requirements of our valuable clients.
I used Icicle for the Everest Base Camp trek. Absolutely amazing service and care. They coped with both bad weather affecting flights and a medical emergency in my group with the utmost professionalism. Ram and Prakash, our guides, we’re calm, kind and knowledgeable. Indira, the manager, met us at our hotel and organised everything very well. Absolutely no complaints at all and I would use them again without hesitation.
We returned from EBC trek with Icicles via AdventurePeople.com and it has been a truly magic experience from start to finish. Icicles are reasonably priced, very well organised, they have great guides and despite me booking 1 week before the trek departed they were able to accommodate all flights and arrangements to get to Lukla with no issue. If you're considering doing ebc without a guide you'll likely get AMS and not enjoy it as much, the Icicles guides ensured we paced ourselves correctly and acclimatised all the way which is hugely important to avoid being ill. Massive thanks to everyone at icicles and Lok and Gurbinda for giving us such a great trip with no problems. I wholly recommend Icicles for ebc or any tour, they're ace.
Just finished the EBC trek with Icicles (via the adventure people). Had a great time and would highly recommend. The tour was well organised and our guides Lok and Govinder were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Be prepared to rough it a little but the views and the achievement of reaching EBC and seeing Everest from Kala Patthar make it all worth it.
If you feel like you would never reach Everest Base Camp, or even just see Mount Everest, these are the people to make your dreams come true! Puja was my guide and I received nothing but 5 star royal treatment during my entire trip. Indira made all arrangements and adjustments to my schedule including arrangements for helicopter the same day! You will feel like family and leave Nepal with new friends if you book with Icicles! I could not have done it without Kazi, my porter either! He was so helpful and accommodating. Your safety and health are always a #1 concern with Icicles. I have stayed at some of the best hotels around the world, but I can say without hesitation that Icicles provided better personal service than all of them!! Don’t hesitate to book your dream trip and relax while Icicles makes it happen for you too!!! Nothing but the best people and worth every dime! Go make memories. Stop looking and start booking!!!
This was the trip of a lifetime. A long-held passion for Everest, resulted several years ago in the discovery that one could trek to Basecamp. While researching companies to help make that dream come true, I discovered icicle Adventures - probably the best thing that I did. Icicle Adventures upped the trip by offering and overnight at Basecamp. My Brother and I signed up.
After a couple of years of planning (and waiting out COVID), we finally landed in Kathmandu and were met seamlessly by Prakash and a driver. We were whisked off to the Ramada Encore - our base before and after the trek.
The following day we met with Indira to discuss the trip logistics and details. Mrs. Indira is a lovely, caring and patient individual, with a deep-rooted sense of commitment and service to her clients. This is a culture and approach that is ever present in all who are affiliated with this fine company.
My brother and I opted to trek using only a guide and caring our own backpacks. This proved to be a challenging (yet rewarding) decision.
The following morning, we met our guide for the trip - TN. He proved to be nothing less than amazing. I simply cannot say enough about him. From his never-ending smile, to his boundless energy, to his commitment to service, and most importantly - to his overarching commitment to our safety - this man has it all.
This trip is challenging, and the impacts of reduced oxygen make it even more so. Having a guide like TN made it bearable. Every day TN would take care of us - from taking our food orders, to getting our rooms, to explaining and describing the mountains - TN did it all. Our entire family became friends with him via social media - a real gem and treasure. A man born for the mountains and this kind of work.
A highlight for us was truly, the opportunity to spend the night a Basecamp - it was a dream come true. To sleep on a glacier, at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall, surrounded by mountaineers - was simply incredible.
Sure, there are bigger "trekking factory" companies, with links to the US, and still others with lots of presence - but you simply cannot get the personalized, caring service that you can from an approachable company like Icicle Adventures. They have a vast menu of trekking options, and LOTS of experience. For us it was like one big family.
I can unequivocally tell you to look no further - book with Icicle adventures.
