Have you noticed in the itinerary of your trekking expedition that you have a day or two for resting in Namche Bazaar? You are not the only trekker to have a rest in the Sherpa town. All the trekkers and climbers who have Everest Base Camp and another adjoining trail in mind spend at least a day or two in Namche Bazaar, a place suitable for acclimatization. When we talk about acclimatization it means that you are supposed to have a day hike or walk so that you are at ease with higher altitudes. So what are the trails suitable for a day hike from Namche Bazaar? Here is a shortlist of what we suppose are some of the best day hikes from Namche.

Hike To Hotel Everest View

hotel-everest-view.jpg

This is supposedly the most popular hike from the Namche Bazaar due to the breathtaking view of the Himalayas including Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, and other sibling peaks. Designed by Yoshinobu Kumagaya, a Japanese architect, Everest View Hotel has been welcoming people since 1971 and is complimented for the simple and elegant design. Though some opt for a helicopter ride to Syangboche and hike for half an hour to the hotel, most opt for a hike to the spot.

Hike to Khumjung and Khunde Villages

These are the twin villages near the Namche Bazaar and are located in the Green valley, getting their name from the fact that every house, except the gompa, has a standard green roof. Home to the Sherpa culture and loaded with numerous tourist facilities, yet are less crowded than the villages along the main route to the Everest Base Camp. The cave above Khunde village and the monastery in Khumjung village that has the skull of Yeti are the other attractions of these villages. Picturesque gate and a beautiful stupa after an hour hike from the splitting point to the village of Khunde is another highlight of this hike that can be done as a loop from Namche Bazaar.

Hike to Kyangjuma

This is a relatively easy hike for the trekkers who look out for less strenuous da hike from Namche Bazaar. Lying about 3.5 km from Namche Bazaar on the trail towards the Everest Base Camp, it provides a spot for enjoying lunch and a cup of coffee. You can hike along the canyon wherein the torrential Dudh Koshi river lies below the trail. This trail also provides a view of Ama Dablam, Kangtega, Lhotse, Everest, and the stop on small teahouses along the trail is a good option to relax and enjoy the trail.

Namche to Thame

You won’t hear much about the hike to Thame village from Namche Bazaar as it falls on the trail of the Everest Three Pass trek and is a bit longer than the above-mentioned hikes. About 10 km away from Namche Bazaar, Thame is home to the famous mountaineer Apa Sherpa and provides solitude to the trekkers, views of the mountains, and traditional cultural heritages.

So, next time when you have acclimatization in Namche Bazaar think about a few of these day hikes and enjoy the marvels of the varied scenery, beauty, traditional and cultural diversity as well as the hospitality of the  Sherpa community. Go and enjoy yourself in and around Namche!
