Trekking to the base of the world's highest peak Mt. Everest (8848.86m), is fascinating. In addition to spectacular vistas of the majestic Himalayas and breathtaking landscapes, the journey can be made more exciting and meaningful, adding a lifelong memory at the same time.

Explore Local Village

Along the trail, you will pass through some villages such as Phakding, Namche, Tengboche, Dingboche, etc., when you follow the standard Everest Base Camp trek route. However, these villages have become just a bunch of teahouses and commercialized, which doesn’t reflect the typical Sherpa characteristics. For example, Namche Bazar, the Sherpa capital of the Khumbu region, has become a prominent tourist hub with facilities of shops, restaurants, bakeries, hotels, etc.

If you want to see the authentic Sherpa village, explore some of the neighboring villages of the main trail, such as Khumjung, Khunde, and Thame. You can observe the rural mountain lifestyle, local architecture, unique culture, traditions, crafts, and distinctive way of living closely. In addition, you may witness the local mountaineers, explore unheard stories, and their Everest summit success and attempts levels.

On the acclimatization day at Namche, you can explore the Khumjung and Khunde, or you can visit Thame instead of Khumjung on the same day.

Talking about Khumjung, it is a beautiful typical village with Khunde Hospital, Khumjung Hilary School, and Khumjung Monastery that adds color to your trip.

Blending with their typical civilization, culture, and festivals provides an exotic experience and true meaning to the trek.

Visit Monasteries

Buddhist monasteries, the beautifully designed sites, are the sacred religious center that even offer you a spiritual awakening experience. Tibetan Buddhism is highly influenced in this area.

You will visit the Tengboche monastery when you trek from Namche to Tengboche because it is attached to the main trail. Still, some other monasteries are outside the main path, such as Lukla, Phakding, Namche, Mende, Thame, Khumjung, Pangboche, etc. So you will be reverberating with energy and extreme happiness.

Among these, the Tengboche monastery, established by Lama Gulu, is the largest and most famous monastery in the Everest region.

Every mountaineer and trekker visit this monastery to pay due respect for their successful journey.

In addition, the Mani Rimdu festival is celebrated with songs and dance in October that fills the heart of visitors with unique and exotic experiences.

Similarly, you might wonder if that Pangboche monastery used to be the house for the so-called Yeti scalp.

Trek via Phortse

Phortse is another village that lies on a bit different route than the standard Everest Base Camp trek route.

You should definitely trek through this route for memorable journeys.

There are many reasons why trekking through the Phortse makes your trek more meaningful.

The first reason is the breathtaking views. Views are more impressive as the trail is higher and on the better side of the valley, considering the location of the mountains. Also, the route is more varied and exciting to cover. Secondly, there are plenty of Himalayan Thar, which are surprisingly tame; also possible to see musk deer and pheasant. Thirdly, the number of trekkers is meager with less crowded trails. Finally, and a bonus reason: Phortse is the best preserved Sherpa village along the Everest Base Camp routes.

Sleep a night at Everest Base Camp

By sleeping a night at base camp, you can add an exciting factor to your Everest Base Camp Trek. Icicles Adventure organizes Everest Base Camp Trek overnight at base camp only in April and May. Sleeping tent and accommodation necessities will be arranged for your overnight sleep at base camp.

Sleeping a night at such a high altitude makes the whole journey exciting and full of lifelong memories.

Except for climbers doing the Mt. Everest expedition, other trekkers usually reach the point and return the same day after spending some time. But, with this opportunity, you can reach the base camp more profoundly and see the mountaineers preparing for their summit journey. This would be a unique experience for you to sleep a night at Everest Base camp.

Be close to your Guide and Porters

Sharing your things with your guide and porter is another way to make your Everest Base Camp trek more enjoyable. The conversation and proper communication with your guides and porters help your journey become more exciting and safe.

Their unheard stories, experiences, and folklore let you know the truth of the region, filling you with lifetime knowledge and experience. In Nepalese culture, people share foods in a group. You can share food with your team and play fun activities with your guide and porters. Remember, the jokes you crack together, the games you play together, the laughter, the joy, and the stories and food you share along the journey make the trip interesting, setting unforgettable memories.

Extend trek to Gokyo

If you want to add extra taste to your trek, extending it to Gokyo makes your trip memorable.

Gokyo Lakes is another main attraction of the Khumbu region. If you are ready to do a little bit more adventure, Gokyo Lake is the place you should not miss on your Everest Base Camp trip. Many trekkers say the Everest Base Camp trek is incomplete without the Gokyo lakes trek.

The view from the top of the Gokyo Ri is one of the most soothing and best sights you will ever witness in your lifetime.

Similarly, the sights of Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, and Nuptse from the vantage points of Gokyo are downright enthralling.

Trekkers experience unforgettable memory of the whole route, including Chola pass and Gokyo lakes with majestic views.

If you wish, Icicles Adventure will organize the extension of your Everest Base Camp trek to Gokyo. Furthermore, if you would like to customize your Everest Base Camp trek in your way, Icicles Adventure is flexible to do that.

Return by Helicopter

The Everest Base Camp trail is almost the same route when you go to the base camp from Lukla and return from the Everest Base Camp to Lukla. However, approximately an hour of walking is different when you return from Gorekshep to Tengboche via Pheriche. In other places, you will walk the same trail when you return. So, returning by helicopter ride makes your Everest Base Camp trek more enjoyable.

Notably, the helicopter cost is quite expensive in Nepal but if you can afford for helicopter back to Lukla or directly to Kathmandu is possible. You can even return from Gokyo to Lukla or directly to Kathmandu if you prefer.

The ride provides a thrilling experience and views of majestic snowcapped Himalayas, glaciers, and Sherpa settlements from the sky. If the weather is good, your helicopter ride will be unique.

The intimate views of surrounding snowcapped peaks next to your window make your entire journey exciting and meaningful.

At nutshell,

Make your once-in-a-lifetime experience unforgettable with lots of memories. Add more exciting things on your trek to fill your heart and soul with the utmost happiness and satisfaction.

Your time availability, budget, and fitness are all related to how you can make your Everest Base Camp Trek more exciting and lifetime achievement. Icicles Adventure plan, prepare, and suggest how you can make your trip more interesting. Our travel experts are ready to help you from every angle.
